Editorial Policy of the Journal
"The Issues of Museology" is an international interdisciplinary peer-reviewed journal, the purpose of which is to publish high-quality, original, conceptual works in the field of museology and the protection of cultural and natural heritage sites. The priority areas that form the range of research interests of the journal are: museology (museology), museum work, history of museology thought, collecting, preservation of cultural heritage, conservation and restoration of historical and cultural objects, art history, cultural history and cultural studies.
Priority within the framework of the journal's activities is given to critical research, discussion materials based on new or little-studied sources, distinguished by the completeness of the methodological base, clear argumentation, novelty of scientific approaches and conceptualism. Publication in the journal can be of interest to both established and young scholars, helping to promote new academic paradigms in the academic field and discuss current scholar and practical problems.
The periodical aims to create an independent platform for intellectual discussions by world experts.
The priority tasks are:
— development of leading research directions in the field of museology and cultural and natural heritage protection;
— analysis of current academic problems and current challenges, faced by the museum community and museums of the world;
— identification and study of little-studied research problems;
— preparation of thematic reviews of new methodological approaches and concepts, reflected in the latest worldwide publications;

The Journal postures itself as a forum for publicizing results of current research projects (both Russian and international). The Editorial Board is in constant cooperation with a large number of universities, research institutions, museums worldwide, wide range of national and international museum associations. As a result, the journal widely presents the latest research and the latest achievements in the field of museology and the protection of cultural and natural heritage sites.
Target Audience
The publication is intended for specialists in the field of museology and cultural and natural heritage protection, history, source study, archeology, art history and history of culture. However, the publication may be of interest to a wider circle of readers, interested in the problems of museum history, theory and practice.
Main Principles of Editorial Policy
The Journal rigorously selects submitted manuscripts. Members of the Editorial Board specializing in the corresponding academic fields anonymously evaluate all submissions distributed to them by the Editor and offer a list of appropriate peer reviewers. After this stage, the manuscripts are subjected to the international double-blind peer review. Following the results of this reviewing process, the Editorial Board decides on the manuscripts to be included in the next issue of the Journal. The Journal involves the scholars from the leading Russian and foreign universities and academic institutions in the peer-reviewing process. In its policy, the Editorial Board follows the recommendations provided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and Peer Review Guidelines.
Although the Journal is bilingual allowing articles published both in Russian and English, publication of materials in English is and will be prioritized, as it serves to integrate the Journal within the international academic community.
All manuscripts are formatted in compliance with the world standards and are furnished with abstracts, keywords and references. Since 2018, DOI names have been assigned to all the articles published in the Journal.
The Journal accepts scholarly articles, book reviews and reports on various academic activities in the field.
“The Issues of Museology” is covered by the following databases: Russian Science Citation Index, Ulrich, EBSCO, Cyberleninka, ProQuest.
Peer Review Statement
All research articles in this journal have undergone rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymous double-blind refereeing by two referees, whose area of expertise is as close as possible to the subject of the submitted manuscript.
Anti-plagiarism
In order to ensure the high quality of published materials, as well as to verify the authenticity of plagiarism (borrowing) all submitted articles are tested by the “Antiplagiat-Rukontext” system.
